Call to end rail strike over outdated working practise |

Rail workers in the West of Scotland are today staging a 24-hour strike in a row over job promotions. Members of the Rail Maritime Union walked out early this morning over demands that members with the most experience are automatically handed positions when they become vacant instead of jobs being open to all applicants. The latest industrial action follows a 72-hour strike from Christmas Eve to Boxing Day. Scottish Conservative Transport Spokesman, Alex Johnstone said: "Bob Crow and the RMT are dinosaurs and this practice which they are so keen to protect is just another fossil from a by-gone age. "Mr Crow is doing his members no favours by driving this wedge still further between them and management. "It's high time he made the effort to drag himself, and his union, into the 21st century." |
